Before and After of both movies.


Returning back to look at two films which we previously focused on, we can see a transition of both films moving into their different stages within the market. The mainstream film being Skyfall, with a high budget and large target audience, and on the other hand, My Brother the Devil, a low-budget, niche independent film. As both films reach maturity at the box office, preparations are made to transide  from being able to watch the films in the Cinema to being able to own a copy of the film itself, for example through DVD release.

The budget for the film was approximately £1 Million. This is a particularly low budget for a film that is major release throughout the UK and due to be released in the US and other territories in 2013.

Who was the director? What do you know about her?
Sally El Hosaini is the director of the film. She is a screenwriter of Egyptian and Welsh origin. She also directs films, such as her debut feature 'My Brother The Devil'. She has wrote and directed other film, such as the shorts 'Henna Night' and 'The Fifth Bowl'

What did you find out about the producers/production company behind the film?

It is produced by Eon Productions and distributed by MGM and Sony Pictures Entertainment. The film was directed by Sam Mendes and written by John Logan, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade.

How much money has Skyfall made since its release? 

Skyfall has made £37.2m in the UK in its first seven days. It has also earned $289,052,543 worldwide amd $80.6 million from 25 markets.

Adele has a single out at the moment - how is this being used to promote Skyfall?

Adele is very popular and attracts lots of people, so too does the film Skyfall, by combining the two together you created a greater combined effect then you would get from them each seperately. It helps increase populairty for both Skyfall and Adele.

Who is the company behind Adele's single and how do they link to the production company behind the film? 

The track was written by Adele and producer Paul Epworth, and features orchestration by J.A.C. Redford. So it means they linked to the film by producing the main song for it.

How have the producers used technology in the filming and editing of the film?

There were series of explosions that were computerised to create certain effects, there was also a variety of technologies used for example the special MI5 technology was very unique and different. MGM was used which had created many other films too. Skyfall, is on course to be the series' highest-grossing film so far after breaking the UK seven-day box-office record and posting $287m (£180m) in its first 10 days across the globe.

There was other technologies included such as the special gadgets used during the film, excluding the cameras, microphones and other sorts of involvements.

Skyfall will be available on a variety of different formats shortly after the film leaves the Cinema. It will be available on the popular DVD/Blu-Ray format, online streaming subscription services such as Netflix and LoveFilm, illegal downloading of the film or streaming and online rentals.


What kinds of advertising for Skyfall have you noticed around London?

There has been quite a lot advertising around the city to promote the film. These include bus side posters, billboards, building side posters, trailers on screens in cinema windows and rolling adverts at bus stops.


Are there examples where other forms of media are promoting Skyfall (and more generally, the 'Bond' brand) but also making their own financial gain?

Examples of this include: the official sound track (Adele - Skyfall), Coca Cola, OPI Nail Varnish and Bollinger Champagne.

Production of Skyfall was suspended throughout 2010 because of MGM's financial troubles. They resumed pre-production following MGM's exit from bankruptcy on 21 December 2010, and in January 2011 the film was officially given a release date of 9 November 2012 by MGM and the Broccoli family, with production scheduled to start in late 2011. Since then, MGM and Sony Pictures announced that the UK and Ireland release date would be brought forward to 26 October 2012, two weeks ahead of the US release date, which remains 9 November 2012.

    There have been many aspects of the internet which have been cleverly used to advertise Skyfall and one of these is online videos of the film stars being interviewed. Further promotion included online diarys that engaged audiences into the film. Advertisements were everywhere from website ads to pop ups and it was a key part of the distribution of the film as it got more people interested in the film.


    who do you think the target audience is for skyfall and how can you tell, from the research youv completed?


    The target audience for this film may be male adults as it constantly shows action sequences for example car chases, These are even presented in the advertisements and the promotion of the film however other advertisements were much more vast and presented romance as one of the films themes attracting audiences from women and teenagers. Overall the film targeted many types of audiences creating much more distribution.

    My brother the devil is distributed internationally by Peccadillo Pictures and was Officially Selected for London Lesbian & Gay Film Festival, in competition at Rotterdam Film Festival and Raindance and screened at the ICA and Bafta.

    The film had also crossed media convergence with a UK rap artist cashtastic, The song was called I will never give up. It had a connection to the films storyline and this made it fairly decent.This was the only evidence of synergy i found and i dont really think it had promoted each other well at all.

    The stars involved in this movie were not well know globally or in the UK a lot, they might have been well know around Hackney where the movie is mainly set.

    My Brother the Devil is a 2012 British film written and directed by Sally El Hosaini.
    It has won multiple awards, including at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival and the 2012 Beriln International Film Festival.

    The film was mainly set in Hackney, Usually around the 'blocks' as most of the crimes usually evolve around the flats.

    Yes there were many students who were taught about where the movie could be found and watched.

    The Cinemas the film was shown at Art House cinemas, this does link to Skyfall however not to much as Skyfall had a bigger budget therefore it was advertised more and more money was invested into the movie to have a better production.

    There was no major scale advertising as it was a low budget film. The film was promoted mainly online.

    The film has been advertised through various forms of social media such as twitter and it also has a official facebook page. Through social networking, the films promotes itself and their target audience are able to find about all kinds of information about the film.
